The tourist, who was in the US state for the holidays, was assaulted on Tuesday night in the resort town of Disney Springs.
He was found dead at the scene.
According to local news site KHOU, police said a man who had been staying in the hotel was “extremely drunk” when he arrived on the scene and began beating the tourist, a 46-year-old man from Florida, on the head.
The man was taken into custody, and police said they had launched an investigation into whether the attack was “racially motivated”.
The tourist’s family has not commented on the incident.
The Florida tourism authority said it was working with local authorities on the investigation.
The US state of Florida is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world, attracting tens of millions of visitors every year.
Tourism in the state is expected to be a record $4.7bn in 2021, according to US Census data.
The tourism industry employs some 4.5 million people in the United States.
