The Portuguese tourism sector is struggling to recover from the global economic downturn.
But the country is expected to resume tourist activities by early next year after a six-month hiatus, the European Tourism Organisation (ETO) said Thursday.
The ETO said that it will now release a “vision for tourism” by the end of January.
The tourism sector accounts for more than 12 percent of Portugal’s gross domestic product.
Portugal’s tourism industry employs around 3.3 million people, making it one of the country’s biggest export industries.
